The position and role of women in colonial times somewhat marginalized. Memasuki masa kemerdekaan, perempuan Indonesia dituntut untuk dapat berperan aktif dalam mengisi kemerdekaan dengan kegiatan yang menunjukkan harkat dan martabat yang setara dengan laki-laki. Banyak bermunculan tokoh terkenal, diantaranya Pratiwi Sudarsono (Prof. Dr. Ir., PHd), calon astronot pertama Indonesia.
Untuk melestarikan, mendalami perjuangan Kartini dalam memajukan peran perempuan Indonesia dan mewujudkan peran strategis perempuan pada abad 21, maka SMA Negeri 1 Boyolali menyelenggarakan peringatan Hari Kartini pada hari Sabtu / 21 April 2012 mulai pukul 07.30 sampai selesai. Kegiatan diisi dengan siswa dan guru mengenakan pakaian kebaya (perempuan), kemeja batik (laki-laki). Juga ada perlombaan :
